My mum ordered a book from ebay called ‘Yoga for Men’ because there’s guys in her classes and all her textbooks are neutral or aimed at women. She wanted a nice, informative guide about how to teach yoga to men.
It arrived today and IT IS ALL PICTURES OF NAKED LADIES DOING YOGA. (‘Yoga’ being a very loose term, a lot of the poses are not even right.)
Mum is so surprised and confused by this, and me and Dad probably aren’t helping by being all like ‘OMG LET ME SEE’, but I’m finding this really funny.

I don’t think I could manage a hot yoga class.

I love the idea, and trying new things is always great … but I just did a yoga practise in my room, wearing something that would probably not be yoga class appropriate, and I’m overheating!

To put that in context a bit, I currently sleep with two duvets because of the average temperature in this house.

Garudasana. Putting on a jumper for internet appropriateness!
I like this one, but I can’t say I include it all that often. I do the arms part all the time though, because it just so happens that it’s the exact counter stretch for the way I sit at the computer.

Upavistha Konasana - ‘my yoga space isn’t really big enough to take a good photo of this pose’ edition. This may be a recurring theme :)
Forever and always trying to keep length in my spine for this one.

Day 2, Gomukhasana - added into my pre bedtime stretches.

I want to join in with Carly’s 30 day yoga challenge, but I’m a day behind.
So here’s a very informal tree pose, which also kind of doubles as an outfit post.
Then again, it’s not like I never do yoga poses away from my mat in everyday clothes. Sometimes it just helps to include some extra balancing in your day :)

I just checked and I’m on track with all my November goals … except running.

We’ve done a lot of travelling/having visitors this month, but I think the main reason is the weather. There’s much less daylight, and it’s cold, rainy or both more often than not.

I expect sooner or later I’ll feel the urge to go run, but lately it’s just seemed so much more appealing to stay in and do yoga.

arilumiere:

First video I’ve ever made! Wanted this to be an introduction to me and my tumblr- for you all to hear my voice and know that I’m a real person and all of that shtuff.

And also because I wanted to ask my followers questions to get to know you all better!

(Ari, I’ve been meaning to answer this for ages! Reblogging because asks have character limits and I’m probably going to ramble)

I want you all to tell me…..

1. How old ya are.

22 (I keep having to stop and think about it! I don’t feel 22 yet.)

2. Where ya live.

In the UK.

3. Why you love yoga.

I could write a (very long) post about this. Yoga has taught me how to breathe properly, how to focus. it’s given strength and flexibility and balance. Yoga has also shown me how to love my body.

Everything else I’d done up til then - dance, ballet, swimming, gymnastics - was about pushing for more. (Fast? Get faster. Flexible? Push it, be more flexible. Strong? Get stronger.) I loved doing those things, but I was constantly demanding more of myself.

Then I went to yoga, and it confused me, because the teacher said things like ‘relax into the stretch’ and ‘don’t worry, the strength will build with practise’. At first, I didn’t even like that.

I do now though, because I feel connected to my body. It’s not a thing I have that I need to make better, it is me. In turn, that connection means I want to respect my body and take care of it. Although I may not always love how it looks, I am always proud of what it can do.

4. Your favorite yoga pose.

It changes, but right now, vrschikasana/scorpion. I can’t do it well, but I can do it. That’s a good level of challenging for me.

5. Your least favorite yoga pose.

Reverse trikonasana/triangle. Oh, this one. I just never seem to get any steadier in it!

6. Why you follow me.

Because you post lots of interesting things. I like the way you word those interesting things. I like your approach to yoga. I like your approach to life. Your hair is awesome and you have a lovely smile. I’ve found some great music through your blog too!

7. What would you like to see on my blog?

Pretty much more of the same! :)

If you’re not already following Ari, go check out her blog!

September 14th 2012

Sprouting Beans // Skincare // Job Applications

Mermaid // Wheel // Scorpion

Sunset // Coffee in a ‘Hug Mug’ // Clash of Kings

I’ve been ill for a few days, and whilst I’m not really better I am fed up of dragging my duvet around moping. So today has been about self care and being moderately productive.

This evening’s yoga practise was meant to be a calm one, but I haven’t practised in over a week and I have so much more space here!

(Also, I hope you like these photo summaries of my day. Because I like making them. It’s way more fun than typing updates!)

August 28th 2012

Breakfast // Packing // Dog Walking
